Weekly All-Star Team - Week 2
Cal's take on an All-Star team based on week 2 performances.
C - Will D Smith, DEN - 4-17, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, 1 BB, 1 IBB
The .235 average won't excite anyone, but Will D Smith produced 11 runs over 17 ABs with a .438 wOBA - now that's efficiency!
1B - Jared Walsh, QC - 5-16, 3 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 5 R, 1 BB
First base was as close as it gets between Jared Walsh and Jose Abreu. Abreu had insane rate stats with his limited 12 ABs, but the weekly aggregate metric values sample size so Walsh's casual 1.290 OPS and 8 runs produced gets the nod.
2B - Niko Goodrum, GLA - 5-16, 2 HR, 2 2B, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB
With another razer thin lead, Niko Goodrum edges out Robinson Cano at second base with his four extra base hits against Denver.
3B - Ke'Bryan Hayes, SPP - 6-15, 1 HR, 1 3B, 5 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB
We finally saw some offense from the number one overall draft pick. He batted .400 with a couple extra base hits for the Parrots in week 2.
SS - Trea Turner, WV - 5-16, 1 HR, 2 2B, 7 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB
Trea blew away the competition at short with his .625 slugging and 7 RBIs for WV.
LF - Juan Soto, TK - 5-18, 4 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R, 1 BB
Juan is expected to make the weekly All-Star team regulary and he earns it in week 2 with 17 total bases.
CF - Mike Trout, JJG, 4-14, 2 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 5 R, 4 BB
Our first repeat All-Star, perennial All-Star Mike Trout earns his spot again in week 2 with a strong .507 wOBA.
RF - Kole Calhoun, DEN - 5-16, 4 HR, 1 2B, 11 RBI, 5 R
Despite being out-slugged by WV's Ronald Acuna Jr, Kole Calhoun produced a league-leading 16 runs for Denver in week 2 and earns a well-deserved weekly All-Star spot.
DH - Marcell Ozuna, QC - 5-15, 2 HR, 1 2B, 5 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB
The designated hitter spot was much more competitive in week 2, but Ozuna stood above the rest with an impressive .518 wOBA and .333 AVG.
P #1 - Tejay Antone, TK - 6.0 IP, 1 W, 0 R, 1 H, 8 SO
Amazing performance from the Kaiju starter who threw 5 perfect innings before allowing a 6th-inning hit.
P #2 - Brad Hand, SBB - 2.2 IP, 1 HD, 1 SV, 0 R, 1 H, 6 SO
A very rare appearance from a reliever-1, Brad Hand pitched in three games this week fanning 6 batters over 2 and 2/3 innings.
P #3 - Christian Javier, VA - 8.0 IP, 1 W, 1 R, 4 H, 1 HR, 8 SO
A solo home run was the only damage the Parrots could muster in a dominant, 8-inning start for Javier.
P #4 - Austin Gomber, WV - 6.0 IP, 1 W, 0 R, 3 H, 8 SO
Gomber is a follower for the Black Bears and recorded two solid outings against Los Muertos.
P #5 - Tanner Houck, FF - 6.2 IP, 1 W, 0 R, 3 H, 6 SO
Rounding out our list, the highest paid player in SBa this season, Tanner Houck with a great bounce-back performance in his second start. He tossed 6 and 2/3 innings of shutout baseball against the Snow Geese.
