Monthly Trash Cans (Month 3)

Josef's take on the worst possible starting team for Month 3.

Monthly Trash Cans (Month 3)

C - Tony Wolters, MKE - 5/41, 16 Ks, .122/.140/.122 - 1/9 CS
I'm not sure what was worse for the Bovine catcher, allowing 8 of 9 runners to successfully steal or that his OPS is barely over the Mendoza Line and he struck out three times as frequently as he found himself on first.

1B - Hunter Dozier, GLA - 4/35, 13 Ks, .114/.225/.114 - 2/2 XCH
Somehow with less hits than Tony Wolters, Hunter Dozier leads the charge for the trash with a robust .339 OPS for the month, striking out thirteen times. He did at least make both of his plays at first though, so maybe not all hope is lost for former Lead Glove third baseman.

2B - Danny Mendick, GLA - 4/26, 10 Ks, .154/.241/.231 - 4/5 XCH
If there were a player named Danny Womandick we would be losing our collective monds, but we just let Danny Mendick slip in and out of our conciousness like nothing is out of the ordinary. Things don't look great for the Unicorns here, taking two of the first three positional awards.

3B - Derek Dietrich, DEN - 6/29, 8 Ks, .207/.273/.379 - 1/3 XCH
3B - Austin Nola, DEN - 3/19, 5 Ks, .158/.333/.211 - 1/1 XCH
The positional group that the league loves to hate, Denver's dynamic duo each had a line worthy of starting for the trash team, so I combined the platoon as co-winners #JustZephyrThings

SS - Carlos Correa, MKE - 6/43, 12 Ks, .140/.178/.256 - 11/12 XCH
One might think this is overly critical of one failed x-check, but when you're paying for an OPS under .500 for elite defense, you expect and require perfection to make it worthwhile.

LF - Lourdes Gurriel Jr, BSG - 10/47, 13 Ks, .213/.275/.255 - 0/3 XCH
Battlestar Galactica corner outfielder Gurriel got to bat a pretty outstanding 51 times this month. Unfortunately, that meant that the Geese had to let Battlestar Galactica corner outfielder Gurriel bat 51 times this month.

CF - Greg Allen, YKN - 5/32, 16 Ks, .156/.357/.188 - 2/3 XCH
Maybe Denver had him stashed in the minors for a reason as it seems Rule 5 draft pick Greg Allen can't keep up with a major league fastball, striking out sixteen times to the tune of a .545 OPS for his new club.

RF - Joey Gallo, MKE - 3/26, 5 Ks, .115/.148/.154 - 2/2 XCH
The Experience was anything but this month, holding his strikeouts down to a respectable five, but he also didn't hit the ball with any sort of authority for the Bovines. Joey Gallo with three hits in a month isn't completely unexpected, but usually they are far more damaging with a slugging percentage higher than a buck fifty.

SP1 - Dylan Bundy, BSG - 14 IP, 22 H, 19 ER, 2.214 WHIP, 12.21 ERA
Bundy was by far the staff ace this month, with his best game allowing three runs, surrounded by a game with 10 and a game with 6. The most surprising thing about his pitching is that he actually only lost one of the three.

SP2 - Kyle Hendricks, PBW - 18 IP, 28 H, 16 ER, 1.722 WHIP, 8.00 ERA
Hendricks was once again the victim of a Tokyo Kaiju offensive explosion as he was immediately traded following another loss to them. If my memory serves, he has been on this list almost every month, which would make sense given that he's thrown 55 innings of 7.11 ERA ball. Why do people keep paying for this guy?

SP3 - Justus Sheffield, SPP - 19.1 IP, 24 H, 14 ER, 2.094 WHIP, 6.60 ERA
I still can't believe this guy won a Pitcher of the Week award, as he rocked a 2.094 WHIP on the month, going 0-2 and allowing double digit runs for the third straight month.

RP1 - Taylor Clarke, FA (TK) - 14.2 IP, 21 H, 18 ER, 2.535 WHIP, 11.41 ERA
Clarke had a respectable month up until he was informed that he was being released, when the Kaiju inexplicably let him pitch after making that decision. An obviously dejected Clarke allowed 9 earned runs in an inning of work, ballooning his ERA by more than two full runs.

RP2 - Connor Brogdon, WWW - 8.2 IP, 10 H, 10 ER, 1.707 WHIP, 10.98 ERA
Brogdon earned himself a stint in the minors with his monthly performance as well, though somehow went 1-0 because relief pitcher wins are a valuable metric.

RP3 - Blake Taylor, VA - 5.2 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2.115 WHIP, 10.38 ERA
The least used pitcher of the group, this must mean that Ryan is smarter than Plack and Josef/Kiger. Taylor's 2.115 WHIP is bad, but at least his damage was limited to six innings.
