FWA Week 15 Update
Did I really award a player with 0 home runs Player of the Week? Why yes, yes I did. It's a new world. Yordan "Singles Only" Alvarez got on base 12 times and that provides a lot of value. More importantly is the lack of negative value which really counts over these small sample sizes.
The Dallas Drillers take a page out of the Phantoms playbook and pull their starting pitcher after 8 1/3 innings of shut out baseball. It's shameful, really. But good for Chris Bassitt. He's doing the best he can under these draconian circumstances.
The rest of the field follows, with a sighting from Corey Seager. More on him later.
Juan Soto charges into the lead on the FWA full season leaderboard. More accurately, I think most of the top 10 just fell away from him. Has the SBa had a 2-time MVP? I'm not going to look it up, but I don't think so and will now operate under the assumption that it has never happened. Soto may have an opportunity to be the 1st if he can avoid a bad week or two. With the massive lead he suddenly has, it seems pretty unlikely that he won't be first in the FWA by season's end.
Spencer Strider stays at the top spot during Ace Skip Week. Luis Castillo took a small dive from #2 to #4 thanks to yours truly. He was the only pitcher in the top 4 to make an appearance last week.
Let's hear a round of applause for Corey Seager, who managed to relinquish the top spot for bad players last week. Jose Miranda is now the worst position player this season, and the only one under 2 games lost for his team.
Craig Kimbrel seems to be holding firm at just over 3 games lost. Has he stopped making appearances or is he just kinda ok now? I don't know and I'm not going to look it up. Who do you think I am? Someone who does research?
Finally, we'll take a quick look at the current magic/tragic numbers. The Ham Fighters are on the verge of elimination and could be officially out of it by the end of the week. Nashville, Denver, and Tokyo have an outside chance to clinch.
