foxxWAR Week 10 Players of the Week
Based entirely on my foxxWAR calculation, here are the players of the week for week 10!
The Week's Top Hitter
Adam Engel: .49 WAR
Engel had 10 hits this week, including 2 homers and 2 doubles. Defensively he did commit an error, but he had 5 other successful x-plays and a robbed home run. Incredible week for the Black Diamond Center Fielder.
Others:
Teoscar Hernandez: .35
Fernando Tatis Jr: .35
Sam Huff: .35
Jesse Winker: .34
The Week's Best Pitcher
TIE - Brandon Woodruff and Tony Gonsolin: .34 WAR
The Bandits got 2 incredible performances from their starting pitchers this week. Both pitchers went 7 scoreless innings without allowing a run to score. Woodruff allowed only 5 base runners (4 hits and a walk) and struck out 7. Gonsolin allowed 8 base runners, but fewer hits and he struck out 9 in his performance. According to my WAR calculation this came out to an identical WAR value.
Others:
Chris Bassitt: .32
Aaron Slegers: .31
Devin Williams: .30
The Week's Worst Hitter
Franchy Cordero: -.22 WAR
Franchy had 3 hits at the plate, all singles, in 12 ABs, so his bat wasn't a major concern. What was a problem was his defense. 3 errors on 3 chances. And without any major offensive contributions to make up for it, Franchy was the worst hitter in week 10.
Others:
Robbie Grossman: -.18
Ramon Urias: -.16
Cesar Hernandez: -.15
Raimel Tapia: -.15
The Week's Worst Pitcher
Mike Clevinger: -.99 WAR
Clevinger got murdered by the Questants to the tune of 17 runs allowed, 14 of which were earned. He allowed 15 hits, 8 of which were home runs, and walked 8. He was forced to pitch 6 innings after fatiguing early to help save the Zephyr bullpen after an extra innings game the night before. And before you go thinking he was awful only because he was fatigued: he only allowed 5 runs after the first. He was rewarded for his efforts with a trip back to Port Royal.
Others:
Ian Anderson: -.65
Zack Britton: -.63
Brent Suter: -.62
Jonathan Loaisiga: -.61
